Lapsang Souchong black tea is quite unique. No other tea has such a powerful nose and smoky, spicy aromas.
This tea comes from China. Lapsang Souchong is grown in the province of Fuijan, in the south-east of the country, on the Wuyi mountains. It is under the Qing dynasty that it would have been born, in the 17th century, even if it is still quite difficult to date the creation of a tea. According to legend, the tea was smoked to be better preserved because of the presence of soldiers who prevented the natural process of tea production.
This Lapsang Souchong tea is incredibly potent despite its low theine content. Smoked with woods such as spruce, cedar, cypress or pine, it reveals a smoky nose. In the taste, we find this smoky aroma, but also spicy. On the nose and in the mouth, it is a firework display, a totally unique feeling that makes the charm of this exceptional tea.
Lapsang Souchong tea is an oxidized tea, like all black teas, but also smoked. And this makes all the difference in the manufacturing process.
Your smoked black tea undergoes a first oxidation stage which is quite long compared to other black teas. Then it is dried on wood, usually pine and cedar, before being rolled and oxidized and dried again. This time, the tea leaves are placed in a bamboo basket over a spruce or cypress or even pine fire. It is during this last stage that the tea takes on its incredible smoky taste.
Lapsang Souchong black tea is quite specific, and one naturally thinks of drinking it more easily with a savoury dish than with a sweet one. Its smoky aromas are reminiscent of pork belly, which can be enjoyed on the barbecue or in a dish of lentil sausages. The association is to be discovered.
You can also drink your Lapsang Souchong with a mushroom risotto, you will surprise your guests with such a food and tea combination.
Another solution: lightly infuse your cooking water with Lapsang Souchong tea and cook your rice in it to flavour it.
Lapsang Souchong is a black tea. As such, it is known for its many virtues.
First of all, it is rich in polyphenols, which gives it antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties.
It is also composed of theobromine, black tea helps to eliminate toxins. Even if it is not very rich in theine, it remains very stimulating for the nervous system.
Its flavonoid composition helps prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. These components have a beneficial action against bad cholesterol.
Another advantage of Lapsang Souchong: it is a slimming partner. It stimulates the metabolism and burns fat. In the context of a diet, it will be your best ally.
