Asia
Lemongrass, also known as Indian verbena or lemon grass, is an herbaceous plant that belongs to the Poaceae family and the genus Cymbopogon. The latter actually includes about fifty lemongrass that come from Asia, like lemon verbena, lemon balm or lemon thyme. During the Renaissance, lemongrass was used for perfume. Today, it is known to chase away mosquitoes even if its effectiveness is questioned in favour of lemon eucalyptus. But it is above all a plant that allows us to enjoy ourselves. Lemongrass in tropical powder comes to us, as its name suggests, from tropical countries where all the conditions are met to cultivate it and obtain a spice of great quality. Lemongrass can be made into oil, powder, but you can also use its sticks to embellish recipes.
Although lemongrass should not be confused with lemon, it still has fresh and pleasant lemony notes.
Lemongrass is a herbaceous plant with long leaves from 90 cm to 2 m long. It is possible to multiply tufts in the spring, while harvesting can be done in any season. It is the base of the stem which is taken and used in its raw or dried state to be then crushed to obtain this magnificent tropical powdered lemongrass.
In cooking, lemongrass will bring a breath of fresh air. As soon as it is eaten, it makes its show and adds a touch of freshness to your salads and other soups. It goes best with white meats. Widely used in Asian cuisine, lemongrass will add flavour to all your chicken-based dishes, whether pan-fried, barbecued or baked. I advise you to make a marinade with oil, lemongrass, chilli and ginger. Its lemony flavours also make it a great ally for your fish. These will be delicately spiced up by the tropical lemongrass powder. In a fish papillote with small vegetables cut into sticks or grated, it brings that incredible freshness that makes all the difference. You can also incorporate it into a sauce to accompany your fish and add pep to your dish. Lemongrass powder goes perfectly with coconut, you can immediately imagine a dish with Asian flavours composed of shrimps, coconut milk, lemongrass powder, all accompanied by a delicious Cantonese rice. A rice that, itself, can be perfectly complemented with this tropical lemongrass powder. At the end of the meal, the lemongrass can be enjoyed as an herbal tea to help it be digested.
Eating lemongrass is for the taste buds, but it is also good for your health. It is known for its digestive properties and helps to relieve intestinal disorders. Lemongrass is also anti-inflammatory and bactericidal, it can be used to fight against fever. Some people also use it to soothe joint pain and rheumatism.
I'm delivering tropical lemongrass powder in a resealable airtight pouch. You can store it perfectly in this sachet and keep it away from humidity and light.
