  • What is my Mexican spice blend?

    This is a very fragrant blend of Mexican spices that will make you discover the flavours usually found on both sides of the Rio Grande as far as Costa Rica.

    Ready to use, it is composed of 7 ingredients that will remind you of the regions south of this great river:

    • Oregano: which will bring its lemony and floral notes
    • Cumin: with its flavour and spicy notes
    • Salt: a natural flavour enhancer that will combine the 6 ingredients in a harmonious way
    • Sweet chilli pepper: to bring you a first delicate touch of heat
    • Hot chilli pepper: for immediate boarding on the lands of the Maya..
    • Garlic: which will transmit its unique aromas and flavours to this blend
    • Coriander: for a vegetal and aromatic touch

    Like many other blends, its recipe can vary depending on the region in which it is prepared. As a result, these recipes are often passed down from generation to generation, in order to perpetuate a local, family tradition.

    David Vanille's choice: I wanted to offer you a mix of tex-mex spices as it is most commonly found in Mexico and South America. By combining sweet and hot chilli pepper, I have preserved the smoky notes typical of these spices by erasing its anesthetic side. As a result, my blend is spicy without the spiciness of the hot pepper masking the other ingredients.

    What is the secret of a successful spice blend?

    Although it is impossible to give even an estimate of the number of spice blends that exist, there are some codes that ensure the creation of a successful spice blend. First of all, it should be noted that some herbs and spices are easier to integrate into a spice blend than others. This is the case with chili peppers, coriander, cumin, oregano and salt... which you will find in my Mexican spice blend.

    Then, the secret of a successful spice blend lies in the dosage of the different ingredients that make it up. Usually, one spice or seasoning is predominant, then the other ingredients are added in proportion to the desired flavours: more or less spiciness, a fresh or floral note, the presence of salt or pepper..

    Some spice blends are intended for a particular use: gingerbread blend, mulled wine spice blend..

    My Mexican spice blend is suitable for seasoning Tex-Mex recipes and poultry. It also goes perfectly with avocados and spices up mayonnaise.

    The origins of tex-mex cuisine

    Tex-mex cuisine is of American origin. It originated in Texas. However, it draws its influences from the Mexican cuisine, although there are some differences. It must be said that it was invented by Mexican nationals living in Texas.

    What is tex-mex cooking?

    Tex-mex cuisine is in fact a Mexican cuisine revisited in the American fashion. Some of the ingredients used in tex-mex recipes are not found in traditional Mexican recipes. This is notably the case of cheese (on nachos for example) or certain spices such as Cumin that you will find in my Mexican spice blend.

    The emblematic recipes of tex-mex cuisine are:

    • The fajitas
    • Chili con carne
    • Guacamole
    • Tortillas

    How do I use my Mexican spice blend in cooking?

    As soon as you open the container, you will feel embarked on the south side of the Rio Grande with some lemony and spicy olfactory notes. You will be able to sprinkle a teaspoon of this mixture as soon as you start cooking your dish, it will diffuse its flavours throughout the cooking process. It will also be an excellent ally for your successful barbecues!

    The "Mexican" Spice Blend will be the perfect touch to all your Mexican-American dishes or even tex-mex! This is how you will be able to flavour with vigour and balance all your meat-based dishes (ground meat, meatballs, grilled chicken...), but also your simmered dishes such as chili con carne and other bean stews.

    The starter : Mexican gazpacho

    A cold soup, perfect as a starter! Gazpacho is a soup found in southern Europe. It is eaten fresh. It consists of raw vegetables that are mixed together. To season it, add a tablespoon of my Mexican spice mix for 4 bowls of gazpacho.

    The dish: Tex-mex tortillas with Mexican spices

    A family dish to enjoy on the go! In my recipe, your corn cakes are spread with white yogurt and lemon juice. Marinate your beef strips in spicy oil with my Mexican spice blend. Once your meat is cooked, garnish your tortillas and add pepper strips and fresh chilli pepper.

    How do you store your Mexican spice blend?

    All my spices are delivered in an airtight freshness bag. Once opened, you can keep your spices in it. In any case, prefer a cool, dry place away from the sun. You can also keep my Mexican spice blend in an opaque and airtight box.
