It is a blend of spices, quite spicy, which comes straight from Louisiana.
Imagine yourself for a moment in the middle of the 18th century. At that time, French people had elected Nova Scotia (Acadia - Northern Canada) as their host country. But it was not counting on the British government to drive them out of this region, on the pretext that they were Catholics, French-speaking and opposed to the idea of swearing allegiance to the English crown. Here are our French settlers deported to very humid, even marshy lands, especially in the bayous, where the taste references will be totally disrupted. They will therefore be led to discover and create new flavours.
Nevertheless, they had brought with them some basic foods (aromatic herbs, spices,...) and their culinary tradition of the metropolis.
It is easy to imagine that we had to think about how to flavour the very first crocodile that these Acadians were about to cook.
So they prepared a marinade made from onion, garlic, thyme, oregano and mustard (ingredients they mastered to perfection and reminding them of the French regions) and decided to add a few more spicy ingredients to it, in order to make this meat they imagined rather tasteless. This was followed by paprika, cumin, pepper and hot pepper. This recipe has of course been modified over time and the cultures that influenced them.
So here we are with this "American" Spice Blend that I am pleased to offer you, ready to use.
Are you a beginner in the use of spices in your kitchen? Excellent news: this mixture is precisely the most appropriate when you are new to this field. Indeed, the fact that it is ready to use, and that in addition, it knows how to deliver such an aromatic palette without too much spiciness, seduces us from the start!
Those who love dishes delicately spiced with raw spices and/or blends will enjoy the same pleasure using the "American" Spice Blend! In fact, I know that many of you started with this particular mixture.
Let's now look at how and in which types of dishes this mixture can be used.
I guaranteed you simplicity, I confirm it right away by inviting you to sprinkle a little of this mixture in your daily kitchen, and whatever the circumstances! It will also go well with meat, poultry, fish and shellfish, vegetables,... and in all cooking methods.
A little advice: if you still fear that the slight spiciness of this mixture will shiver your palate, I invite you to include it at the very beginning of the cooking process. On the other hand, if you are fond of this hot little tip, it will be at the end of the cooking time that you can sprinkle it. And for thrill-seekers: don't hesitate to add a little of this mixture to your salads and other raw vegetables.
Here is a selection of recipe ideas to concoct on a daily basis or for special occasions with friends or family, with the "American" Spice Mix.
As mentioned above, this blend can be adapted to a beautiful palette of different flavours, in order to make you discover new ones.
To prepare your grills and meats :
Thus, you can sprinkle half a spoonful to one spoonful of "American" Spice Mix on your red or white meats, delicate or not poultry, fish and other seafood... The possibilities are endless. Prepare delicious beef ribs, pork chops, and other skewers for your festive barbecue by marinating your meat pieces in this blend of spices mixed with a little olive and lemon oil. Make delicious lobster skewers by sprinkling them with a little of this mixture. You will probably mark your guests' taste buds with a superb taste experience!
To prepare your homemade snacks :
You can also revisit your hamburgers (accompanied by delicious spicy potatoes of course!) and other homemade pizzas by adding this fabulous blend!
In the oven as simmered, sublime dishes :
The "American" Spice Mix is resistant to all cooking methods, do not hesitate to integrate it into a pork roast, a filet mignon, or even into a meatloaf that you will cook in a terrine.
Prepare your favourite simmered dishes such as chicken jambalaya or red bean stew with all the flavours of Louisiana.
To prepare tasty fish :
Fish are also in the spotlight when you decide to sublimate them with this mixture. You can fry a salmon steak on which you can add a touch of these spices at the very end of the cooking process, or prepare a fish parmentier in which the mixture will diffuse all its flavours by reducing its spiciness throughout the cooking process.
Prepare irresistible vegetables :
But you're going to say to me, "What about the vegetables in all this?!!!! ». Don't worry, they have their place in these recipes using "American" Spice Mix. I suggest adding it to a zucchini and pepper pan, or in a leek pie.
Those who love thrills can also add "American" Spice Mix to their vinaigrette for a corn and red bean salad, or any other salad of raw vegetables.
To prepare all your starchy foods :
This blend will be the ideal companion for all starchy foods and legumes: potatoes, rice, pasta, wheat, spelt, red beans, white beans, etc
All I have to do now is wish you a good taste trip!
