Recipe

The marbled cake, also called chocolate vanilla cake or zebra cake is a classic of children's snacks. Everyone is always amazed when cutting to discover its beautiful marbling and yet, this cake is very easy to make! The dough is very simple to make and the fact of making it in two colours does not extend the working time, because it is a single dough that is divided at the end, and that is perfumed with vanilla or chocolate. For the vanilla part, it is essential to use good vanilla flavoured pods, otherwise the flavor will not develop and will not come out against the cocoa.

Whether it's for a birthday snack, to share with colleagues or to accompany tea, the marble cake is THE cake for you! Younger children will appreciate it with a glass of milk and a seasonal fruit. You can make this cake in a cake mould, but also in a round or original mould to make it more festive, such as a heart-shaped or castle-shaped mould for example.

To obtain pretty marbling, the secret is.... to do nothing! Simply alternate small amounts of vanilla and chocolate mixture. Do not try to mix or form the marbling with a fork, as it will form on its own when the cake bakes.

Ingredients

150 g butter

200 g sugar

4 eggs

10 cl of milk

300 g flour

1 sachet of baking powder

15 g cocoa powder

1 vanilla

pod One to two pinches of 5 traditional spices

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 180°C. Melt the butter in the microwave. In a bowl, combine the melted butter, powdered sugar and eggs. Add 10 cl of milk, flour and yeast.

Separate the dough into two equal portions in two containers. In the first one add the seeds of the vanilla pod split in half and scraped with the back of a knife.

In the other, add the cocoa powder, a touch of traditional 5 spice mixture and mix.

Butter and flour a cake tin. Spread the dough evenly by alternating a little dough of the two flavors, without mixing.

Put in the oven for about 1 hour and 10 minutes (depending on the oven) at 180°C.
