What is a spice and why use it?

Considered as a food, spices can be vegetable or mineral. They are used to flavour, colour or spice up food dishes. They can come from different parts of plants. For example, cinnamon comes from the bark of the cinnamon tree, saffron and cloves from flowers and coriander from seeds. They can be used in many dishes. Ground cinnamon is essential in the making of gingerbread, traditional Indian spices will wreak havoc in white meat and even fish marinades! You can even use some of them by sprinkling them directly on fresh fruit such as mango or pineapple for example. This way, you can modify recipes that you already know or completely improvise and abandon traditional recipes.

Most of them have properties. For this reason, they were mainly used as remedies. For each of the spices I have selected for you, I present its uses by the peoples of the world. Find all my recipe ideas on the product description sheets.
